3. What is a political party? A political party is a political organization that subscribes to a certain ideology and seeks to attain political power within a government.
The party's policies often represent an aggregation (collection) of interests within the party, which will inevitably vary considerably even between party members.
The United States runs on what is called a “two part system” (Republicans and/or Democrats have most of the power in the government although other parties do exist).
Examples of political parties:
Republican, Democrat,
3rd parties include ~ Green Party
4. 3rd Parties in U.S. Government There have been many in U.S. history.
Some Current U.S. 3rd parties:
Libertarian Party (1971 – Present)
Constitution Party (formerly the U.S. Taxpayers Party) (1992 – Present)

5. Current Minor and Regional Parties These parties do not have ballot status for their presidential candidate in enough states to have even a theoretical chance to win.
Some do not have presidential candidates at all, but do have candidates for other offices.
