Reagan served as President from 1981-1989. He served two terms as a California congressman and was a successful actor previously. • There was an unsuccessful assassination attempt on March 30th, 1981. • 52 Americans were held hostage for 444 days ending on January 19, 1981, minutes after Reagan’s swearing in as President.

6. Political Climate During four summit conferences Reagan met with U.S.S.R premier Mikhail Gorbachev which led to the signing of The INF treaty, a precursor to the end of the cold war. One of the largest political scandals in history came to light in November 1986 referred to as the Iran-Contra Affair where weapons had been sold to Iran, and the proceeds used by the CIA to aid Contras in Nicaragua. The 2nd largest stock market crash occurred Monday October 19th, 1987 referred to as Black Monday. U.S markets lost 22.61% in one day.

Debuting 11/30/1982 Thriller has sold almost 110 million copies. • Madonna is the 2nd highest selling female artist of all time. She released her first album in 1983 and continues to make music.
