  3. Climate • Tropical and dry • Long summers • Bitterly cold winters

  4. Temperature • Hot summers • Over 38 degrees Celsius • Cold winters • Below 40 degrees Celsius

  5. Rainfall • 20-35 inches of precipitation per year • Drought occurs • Grass fires occur

  6. Animals • Bison - buffalo in biome • Wolves – travel in packs to find prey • Bobcats – tan with black spots • Coyotes – 18 – 44 lbs

  7. Animals • Badgers – viscous animals with 2 white and black spots • Prairie Dogs – black or white tailed • Bald Eagles – our nations bird with strong beaks and talons

  8. Insects • Spiders – mostly not deadly but can be • Crickets – rub legs together to make sound to communicate • Grasshoppers – hop to another place

  9. Plants • Big Bluestem Grass – 3-10 feet tall • Indian Grass – blades ¼ and ½ inches • Buffalo grass – 2-5 inches

  10. Plants • June Grass – grows straight up 10 inches • Stinging Nettle – has a part of a leaf that stings people badly
