  4. Flat World 1.0 (1995-2005) • Connect, Compete and Collaborate • 3 forces led to a Flat World • Focus: Producing goods & services globally • Problems: • Not very mobile • Cost of participating excluded people

  5. Flat World 2.0(2005-Present) • 2.0 builds the foundation of 1.0 • Focus shift generating and sharing ideas • Cost of usage lowered • Mobilized by use of Smartphones and “the cloud” • Result: Move from a Connected to Hyper-conected world

  6. Feeling the Pressure • There is no job not affected by globalization • The terms “Export” “Made in America” are being phased out • “Source everywhere, Manufacture everywhere, Sell everywhere” and “Made Globally” are taking their place.

  7. Who are the “Creators”? • Creators are the ones "driving productivity“ • We can think of our students as the “creators” • The key is: How can we as servers and creators "add value by doing something unique and irreplaceable".

  8. Who are the “Servers”? • Servers are the ones that "service these creators. • Many servers will be replaced by "machines and computers.“ • We as educators are the “servers” to our students, the “creators”

Forget Blue/White Collar Increased Productivity with Technology Engineers Lawyers Doctors Chefs In Person or Manually Non-Routine Low-Skilled Non-Routine High Skilled Barber Waitress Electrician Critical Thinking Creativity Not replaced by robot or computer Routine Middle Skilled Replaced by Computer Automation Transcribers Assembly Lines Outsourced Repetitive Tasks
