It looks like a laptop, but it isn’t! • Features: • No hard drive, CD, etc. • USB only • Student-proofing • No Ethernet, so… • Just a browser, apps, and a keyboard What *is* a ChromeBook?
You can think of a ChromeBook as: • An Internet-dependent tablet • That starts up super fast • Powered by Google’s Chrome operating system • With the only app natively stored on the device being a browser • Everything else is composed of Web apps (email, photos, documents), or apps that run while you’re connected to a network. • Of course, this means there’s very little you can do on the ChromeBook without Internet access. • The high point about everything being saved on the Web is that you’ll have access to it from any computer. • Plus, if a ChromeBook ever bites the dust, students won’t have to worry about losing all their apps, documents, and settings. In this tour, you’ll walk through the main screens you’ll encounter while using a ChromeBook: • Sign-in screen • The desktop area • The browser window
The first screen you’ll see after starting up your Chrome device is the main sign-in screen. All the Google Accounts added to the device will show up here.
Here are the key things you can do on this screen: • Sign in • Just click the Google Account you want to use and enter your password. • Browse as a guest • Click Browse as Guest from the launcher to start a guest browsing session – but you won’t have the same apps and features available to you. • Shut down • Click the button in the lower-left corner of the screen or simply close the lid to shut down. Here are the key things you can do on this screen: • Open a new tab • Open a new tab by clicking on the Chrome logo. • See your apps list • See your apps list by clicking • Launch an App • Click an app in the list to open it. Launcher Screen
Here are the key things you can do with windows: • Maximize windows • To quickly maximize your window, just click the window control button . • Minimize windows or dock them to the side • Click the window control button and drag the window downward to minimize it on the launcher, or to the left and right to dock it to the side of the screen. • Manually resize windows • Place your cursor on the edges of your current window to manually resize your window. Here are the key things you can do on this screen: • See and change essential settings • The status area allows you to see all your essential settings. • Sign out • Use the Sign out option or click the lock icon if needed • Open the Settings page • Select Settings to see everything you can adjust on the device. Here are the key things you can do on this screen: • Choose your background wallpaper • Right-click the background area and select Set Wallpaper. • Hide or show the launcher • The launcher and the status area at the bottom of the screen are hidden automatically if the browser window is maximized.
