  4. MOVEMENT: the transfer of people, goods or information from one location to another Before you move on… Write this definition down in the space provided on your notes.

  5. Let’s think about movement in terms of PEOPLE for now. Why do you think people move? Before you move on: Answer this question on #2 on your notes. 2. Why do you think people move?

  6. People move because of: PUSH factors and PULL factors. Let’s look at both.

  7. PUSH factors Push people out of a community Make people want to move away from where they are Typically negative Example: If the lake by my house flooded every year, that might me want to move somewhere else. Before you move on: Answer #3 on your notes sheet.

  8. More examples of PUSH factors Natural disasters Unsafe area Change in employment (losing a job, not able to find a job, etc.) Inadequate (not good enough) education Inadequate healthcare Not enough recreational opportunities Unfavorable (you don’t like it) weather/climate

  10. PULL factors Pull people into a community Make people want to move into a community Typically positive Example: The opportunity of teaching at TCMS influenced my decision to move here. Before you move on: Answer #5 on your notes sheet.
