  2. Contents • History and Current Status • Tamworth Wireless Mission • How the Service Will Work • Implementation Timelines • What To Do If You Are Interested in Being a Customer

  3. Tamworth Wireless – 4 Years in the Making

  4. Tamworth Wireless Mission and Vision Mission: To make affordable broadband Internet access and local IT support services available to all households, individuals and organizations in Tamworth. Vision: Tamworth citizens will use high speed broadband access to improve their livelihoods; create new opportunity; and connect with the world in ways that enhance their quality of life.

  5. Current Status • Founding Board Members • John Cleveland, Chair • Lianne Prentice • Jack Waldron • Betsy Loughran • DemirhanYeningun • Dennis Quinn, President (Ex Officio) • Founding Board established • Non-Profit Articles of Incorporation in process • Business plan developed • Technical plan developed and approved by the Project Team • Initial equipment arriving • Deployment of first 25 “Beta Test” customers targeted for Fall 2010 • Project Team • (Meets monthly to review implementation progress) • Tamworth Foundation Board Members • Tamworth Wireless Board Chair and President

  6. How the System Works • Bandwidth is purchased from NHVT and travels through a phone line to a 10” dish on the back of the UCC Church • A signal is broadcast from UCC to the Great Hill Fire Tower, and from there to Page Hill and Bunker Hill • The signal is broadcast from those access points to a “internet radios” at individual residences, and to neighborhood nodes. • A cable from the internet radio brings the signal to into the customer’s home. 8. Projected System Performance Goals • Each user will be guaranteed a minimum level of bandwidth • Bandwidth will depend on the pricing plan (higher cost, more bandwidth) • The “standard” bandwidth package is expected to be able to deliver: • 3 megabits (3 million) of download speed • 1 megabit (1 million) of upload speed • The Beta Test phase (first 25 customers) will determine verifiable system performance

  9. Typical Broadband Speeds *Actual speeds may vary

  10. Preliminary Pricing Goals* *Final pricing may change slightly based on prototype experience and speeds that can be delivered. **Pricing for part time residents has not yet been determined.

  11. Other Services Tamworth Wireless Will Provide • Customer IT support – computer repair; software troubleshooting, virus & malware removal. • Website design • Services will be provided on a fee basis – they are not included in the monthly Internet service fee

  12. Implementation Timelines

  13. Customer Sign Up Process – Beta Test Fill out a form if you are interested. Dennis will email everyone on the list to verify interest. (This will include those who expressed interest through the community survey, and online survey.) Dennis will choose 25 representative customers, based on technical needs, and geographical location to effectively test the capabilities of the system. Tamworth Wireless will provide and install customer equipment for free. Customers will be connected for one month at no cost while system is being tested. To continue, customers will sign a one-year contract.

  14. Future Customer Additions • Once the Beta Test is completed, additional customers will be added at the rate that the system can effectively absorb. • The number of customers will need to be matched to broadband supply to assure guaranteed speeds. • Depending on the Beta Test results, it may be feasible to offer a reduced cost for initial equipment and installation fees to “first wave” customers – but we will not know this until the Beta Test is complete.

  15. Summary • Tamworth Wireless will be an important new economic development asset for the town. • In the future, our system will enable us to access even faster broadband speeds. • The implementation process is technically complicated and needs to be done in a deliberate and careful manner. • We will move as quickly as our quality standards allow us to!

  16. Thank You to the Tamworth Foundation for Supporting Tamworth Wireless!
