This is when we don't see any reflected sunlight on its front face, so it looks like there is no moon. New Moon
Waxing means that the moon being shown is beginning to grow in size. • Crescent is when there is only a sliver of the moon shown. • Waxing always occurs on the right side. Waxing Crescent
This is when we see half of the moon illuminated. • For the first quarter the side illuminated will be the right side. First Quarter
Waxing means that the moon being shown is beginning to grow in size. • Gibbous is when over ¾ of the moon is being shown. Waxing Gibbous
This is when the entire moon is illuminated. • A blue moon is when we have two full moons in one month. Full Moon
Waning means that the portion of the moon being illuminated is getting smaller. • Gibbous means that over ¾ of the moon is being shown. • Waning tells you that the left side of the moon will be shown. Waning Gibbous
The last quarter of the moon is when half of the moon is illuminated. • During the last quarter the left side of the moon will be lit. Last Quarter
