TGad Channel Model Update Date: 2010-01-19 Authors: Alexander Maltsev, Intel
Abstract • This presentation gives an overview of the new completed items for TGad channel model for the conference room and living room environments. Description of these items can be found in new revision 05 of TGad channel model document (11-09-0334-05-00ad-channel-models-for-60-ghz-wlan-systems). Alexander Maltsev, Intel
Polarization Impact Model for Living Room Environment • Polarization impact model was developed for living room scenario applying the same methodology as was proposed for the conference room environment. • Statistical models for cluster polarization matrices were developed using ray-tracing simulations with polarization support. • Section 5.4 of the new revision of TGad channel model document includes full description of proposed polarization statistical model for living room environment. Alexander Maltsev, Intel
Path Loss Model for Conference Room Environment • Path loss model for the conference room STA-STA sub-scenario was updated with new results for isotropic-to-directional TX-RX antennas configuration. • Path loss model for the conference room STA-AP sub-scenario was created applying the same methodology as was developed for STA-STA sub-scenario. • Detailed description of the path loss model for conference room environment can be found in new revision of TGad channel model document - sections 7.2 and 7.5. Alexander Maltsev, Intel
Path Loss Model for Living Room Environment • Path loss model for living room environment was created utilizing the same approach as was used for the conference room channel model. • Description of proposed path loss model is provided in new revision 5 of TGad channel model document – sections 7.4 and 7.5. Alexander Maltsev, Intel
Beamforming Algorithms Description • The description of two methods for antenna beamforming is provided in new revision of TGad channel model document – sections 6.5 and 6.6. • The first method is the maximum power ray beamforming that sets the transmit and receive antennas steering directions along the channel ray with the maximum power. An ideal knowledge of the space-time channel realization is assumed, it provides essential simplification for calculation of the reference performance results for a 60 GHz WLAN system using the developed channel model. • The second beamforming algorithm is the practical algorithm realizing exhaustive search procedure for given antenna HPBW and target spherical sector. This algorithm defines a set of antenna steering directions so that to cover the given spherical sector with some minimum antenna gain and at the same time to minimize the number of antenna positions in exhaustive search procedure. Dynamical Human Blockage Approach for PHY Layer and MAC Layer Evaluation for the Conference Room Scenario • The description of dynamical human blockage approach for PHY layer and MAC layer evaluation based on the results presented in [1] for conference room environment is provided in new revision of TGad channel model document – sections 3.3.8, 3.5.7 and 8. Alexander Maltsev, Intel

Summary of Intra-cluster Time Domain Parameters for Living Room Environment Alexander Maltsev, Intel
Conclusion • Two channel models for conference room and living room environments are fully completed and satisfy all requirements for 60 GHz WLAN systems: • Provide accurate space-time characteristics of the propagation channel, • Support beamforming with steerable directional antennas on both TX and RX sides with no limitation on the antenna technology, • Take into account polarization characteristics of antennas and signals, • Support dynamical characteristics of the propagation channel arising from people motion.
