Why do I have to do this? • Many of you had essays that were FULL of conjunction errors—these make your essays confusing to read. • Standard: WOC 1.1 Demonstrate control of grammar, diction, and paragraph and sentence structure and an understanding of English usage. • ESLR: Reflective Communicators • Objective: Write your essays using proper punctuation for compound and complex sentences.

  3. Remember the Coordinating Conjunctions Remember FANBOYS: • F= for • A=and • N=nor • B=but • O=or • Y=yet • S=so • Review your notes from Wednesday, so you will select the coordinating conjunction that will function the best in the sentence

  4. Combine the Simple Sentences Directions: In the exercises, select the best functioning coordinating conjunction combine the simple sentences. Know why you chose each coordinating conjunction. • I like dark chocolate. White chocolate makes me gag. • You can memorize all of the Word Dissection definitions. You can be clueless about complex words on the SAT. • My mom vacuumed the carpet yesterday. The dirt tracked in from my hiking boots is gone. • Learning to swim is easy. You can learn to doggy paddle in just a few minutes. • Her majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, ordered the servants to prepare the palace. The French ambassador would be visiting next week. • Considering the immense sadness, you should not tell any jokes today. Do not smirk at the ironic puns or innuendo. • You may have to modify the second sentence. • Reading The Kite Runner seemed unbearable. I continued to turn the pages, falling deeper into Hassan’s burdensome existence.
