  2. 1886- The Horse in Motion • The Horse in Motion was the first ever animated picture made by Eadweard Muybridge.   3. 1867-Mutoscope • This was one of the earliest motion picture devises created by Hermann Casler. You could crank it and the pictures would flip through like a book creating animation. • http://www.precinemahistory.net/1890.htm

  4. 1892-12 Lenses Camera • He used this this camera to video other people in motion as a study of muscle movements. • http://www.precinemahistory.net/1890.htm

  5. 1888-Kinetoscope • Thomas Edison patented the first Kinetoscope which showed motion pictures that could be viewed in a small box. http://www.victorian-cinema.net/machines

  6. 1892- First Video Camera • William Kennedy Laurie Dickson made the first 35mm video camera in Edison’s lab in October of 1892. He did this by experimenting with a horizontal camera, a form of the vertical camera, microphotographs, and a Tachyscope.   7. 1893-Zoopraxiscope • It allowed you to paint photographs onto the glass, and when spun and projected it would create an animation. • http://www.precinemahistory.net/1890.htm

  8. 1895-First Film • The Lumiere Brothers were the first people to successfully make a film. It was a 50 second video of a train coming into the La Ciotat Station.   9. 1896-First Projector • In 1896, the Edison company introduced the first Vitascopeprojector, which was the first successful projector in the United States. • http://www.precinemahistory.net/1890.htm

  10. 1896-Biograph • Hermann Casler invented the Biograph which ran on electricity and provided continuous movement. This was in competition with the Kinetoscope. • http://www.victorian-cinema.net/casler

  11. 1896- Cieroscope • Richard Appleton was the first to make a machine that could take a video, and be able to process and show it, right then and there. It also worked as a printer. • http://www.precinemahistory.net/1895.htm

  12. 1905-The First Movie Theater • The first movie theater was opened June 19, 1905 in Pittsburg by William Penn and Harry Davis. • They moved seats into a store and played movies all day. • These movie theaters were called Nickelodeans because they cost a nickel and the word odean was Greek for theater. • http://www.digitalhistory.uh.edu/historyonline/film_chron.cfm

  14. 1932-Technicolor • The first full color, three strip Technicolor animated short film (Flowers and Trees) was released. This film won Disney an Oscar for Best Short Subject. • http://technicolor.umwblogs.org/sources/

  15. 1937-Snow White • The movie Snow White marked a very important time in the history of video production. Snow White was the first feature film that had sound, color, and full length animation. Disney released this film in 1937. • http://www.waltdisney.org/snow-white

  16. 1939- First Commercial Broadcast • President Franklin Roosevelt's opening of the 1939 New York World's Fair is broadcast live from NBC's experimental station -- W2XBS -- in New York City. • http://www3.northern.edu/wild/th100/tv.htm
