1940 • May 10th, Germany invades the Netherlands • As a Jew, Otto can no longer own a business
1942 • All Jews had to wear a Star of David • Anne gets the diary for her 13th birthday and begins writing • Anne’s sister Margot gets a work order • The Franks go into hiding

Fritz Pfeffer, the dentist. His fiancee did not go into hiding since she wasn’t Jewish.
1944 • August 4, they are discovered and arrested. • Their helpers are thrown in prison.
1944 • August 8, all 8 people who were in hiding are sent on a train toWesterbrok Transit Camp
September 1944 • Herman van Pels is gassed at Auschwitz since he can’t do hard labor.
October 1944 • Fritz Pfeffer is moved to Neuengamme concentration camp. He dies on Dec. 20th due to illness.
January 1945 • Edith Frank watches her children leave Auschwitz, becomes ill, and dies.
March 1945 • Margot Frank dies in Bergen-Belsen concentration camp from typhus.
March 1945 • Anne Frank dies in Bergen-Belsen of typhus shortly after Margot. • Just 3 weeks later, the British liberate the camp.
May 5, 1945 • Peter van Pels dies of exhaustion in Mauthausen concentration camp in Austria.
April 9 to May 8, 1945 • Auguste van Pels dies in Germany or Czechoslovakia during this time.
Otto Frank is the only survivor • He returns to Amsterdam
June 25, 1947 • Otto Frank publishes Anne’s diary: • “If she were here, Anne would be so proud.”
