What does “Processed” mean? It means Mr McKenic has taken all the “Nasties” out of the normal Acidic Coil cleaner formula, and made it completely safe. Most standard acidic coil cleaners use a 1:10 solution The new Mr McKenic Acidic Coil Cleaner allows you to determine what strength you wish to use to do a specific job. You can use it as a full concentrate Or dilute it 1:1, 1:5; 1:10, or as a mild wash 1:15 Whatever dilution you use,it will never ever harm the fins. It incorporates an inhibitor which prevents rust build-up. It also destroys bacteria and slime, eliminating any possibility of Legionella
For demonstration we recommended • Mr McKenic Processed Acidic Coil Cleaner in a 1:1 Solution • It is the most powerful processed acidic coil cleaner on the market. It allowed us to do a thorough deep clean without harming the fins in any way • Our aim was to restore the air velocity to its maximum capability. • This would ensure that the coil would operate more efficiently and result in significant power savings. • An additional benefit is that the Mr McKenic Processed Acidic Coil Cleaner leaves an inhibitor which will prevent rust build-up. • The chemicals in Mr McKenic Processed Acidic Coil Cleaner will also destroy any bacteria or slime build-up in the drain pipes, thereby preventing Legionella
The coil chosen for the test had been cleaned 1 month previously with a standard acidic coil cleaner. However the Company suspected that all the contaminants had not been satisfactorily removed Supremeair believed Mr McKenic could resolve the problem
Duncan Du Plessis of Supremeair tested the air velocity on the top panel of the coil before the cleaning process began. The average reading was 1.56 M/s. It was taken with the filters on because we intended cleaning them as well
Wayne Maree of Supremeair applied the Mr McKenic Processed Acidic Coil Cleaner 1:1 solution. Unlike ordinary Acidic Coil Cleaners, it is not normally necessary to wear protective clothing or gloves while doing so. However the law insists they are worn for safety reasons
The mask was worn because Mr McKenic Processed Coil Cleaner attacks any contaminants and bacteria on the coil. This deep cleansing can give off a slightly pungent smell, which lasts for 5-10 minutes.
We used a 6-bar pressure pump to apply the coil cleaner. It gives a very deep penetration without damaging the fins in any way – unlike a WAP, which can cause serious damage to the fins, and uses approx 1000 litres of precious water an hour.
The Mr McKenic treatment does a thorough in-depth clean. It also leaves an inhibitor on the coil which prevents rust build-up. These are standard features, which ordinary acidic coil cleaners don’t have
Although the coil had been cleaned recently, it was still heavily contaminated, so we left the Mr McKenic Coil Cleaner on for 20 minutes before Duncan started rinsing it off with a garden hose.
This gives some idea of the contaminants that the cleaning removed. A major product plus is that Mr McKenic Processed Acidic Coil Cleaner will never corrode or damage the fins, thereby extending their life
The Mr McKenic Processed Acidic Coil Cleaner in the water running off the coil, also cleaned the drain pipe. This removed any contaminants including any bacteria or slime, thereby eliminating any possible Legionella growth A great amount of dirt was removed
The panel was restored to mint condition. It took a fraction of the time to do when compared to a normal wap-wash.
The Before and After Test Before After
Duncan checked the air velocity after the cleaning was completed. The bottom panel had improved from 0.7 M/s to 1.58 M/s The efficiency had more than doubled! The top panel increased from 1.56M/s to 2.17 M/s a 39% improvement!
Duncan discussed the results of the tests with Jamiel Amien and Aslam Champion ofOld Mutual.
Mr McKenic Germ Killer was sprayed onto the coil before the unit was re-started. There are two reasons for doing this:1. It kills any bacteria in the ducting including Legionella.2. It gives a fresh clean smell which filters into the rooms, which are serviced by the unit
Clean filters are an essential part of the cleaning process. We therefore also cleaned those which covered the panels we had worked on • We used Mr McKenic Biodegradable Degreaser • In a 1:5 Solution • It’s quick and it’s simple • It took less than 5 minutes to do this panel • It removed all contaminants instantly • Completely safe and won’t damage the filter • Saves precious water • And cost about R6 to do
Blocked air con drain pipes are quite common at Mutual Park. To avoid this we strongly recommend Mr McKenic Pan Tablets. They last for 28 days and will ensure that there is no possibility of Legionella growth. They are extremely cost-effective and require little labour
The improvement in air velocity we achieved in this test is in line with similar figures obtained from tests on coils from other centres. Arabella Hotel Cape Town

Bertus and Shaun at Greenacres in PE checked the air velocity readings on the clean area of the coil. They showed an average 2.4M/s as compared to 1.7 M/s when we started – a 41% improvement! Greenacres Port Elizabeth
What happened at this demo has been happening all over the country. Here are some pics of recent demos in other buildings • Contaminants removed from a coil at Canal Walk one month after it had been cleaned with another brand of acidic coil cleaner • Contaminants removed from a coil at Cavendish Square two months after it had been cleaned with a WAP
Still more results • Contaminants removed from a coil at The Houses of Parliament after it had been cleaned with a WAP wash • Contaminants removed from a coil at Vincent Park Centre East London after it had been cleaned with a WAP wash
