  2. CATALOG DESCRIPTION A hands-on course covering features of the desktop publishing capabilities of a word processing program. Students will learn to prepare attractive business and personal documents, promotional documents, Web pages, and PowerPoint presentations. Transfers to CSU.

  3. REQUIRED STUDENT MATERIALS MS WORD 2013 MS PUBLISHER 2013 • Arford, Roggenkamp, Rutkosky. Advanced Microsoft Word 2013 Desktop Publishing, EMC Paradigm Publishing Company, 2014. (ISBN 978-0-76385-707-3) • 1” Binder for Portfolio • A USB memory stick • Shelly, Starks. Microsoft Publisher 2013: Complete, Course Technology/Cengage Learning, 2014. (ISBN: 978-1-285-16727-5) • 1” Binder for Portfolio • A USB memory stick

Objective Upon completion of this course, you will demonstrate the ability to use various desktop publishing features and applications of the Word 2013 or Publisher 2013 program to prepare many different types of documents. • Apply the desktop publishing process to business correspondence. • Prepare internal business documents. • Create letterheads, envelopes, and business cards. • Create personal documents. • Create promotional documents. • Create brochures.

  5. COURSE REQUIREMENTS AND GRADING PROCEDURES: MS Publisher Chapter Exercises: Complete all chapter exercises. These exercises will enable you to complete “Apply Your Knowledge” and “In the Lab” Projects that are assigned. “Apply Your Knowledge” and “In the Lab” Projects: These must be completed weekly. See the Recap Sheet for specific assessments due in most cases, you may choose up to three assessments to submit. If the assessments are not handed in weekly, you may be dropped from the course. Portfolio: Portfolios will consist of ALL Chapter exercises, “Apply Your Knowledge,” and “In the Lab” exercises. Place all of your completed work in your final portfolio to receive proper credit for the portfolio. Excellent student portfolios in the past were presented in binders along with dividers, plastic sheet protectors, and a table of contents. The portfolio will be due by the last week of class—before final exam week. Final Test: A word processing project will be given as a take-home final exam. Please be sure to pick up your assignment task one week prior to final exam week. MS Word Chapter Exercises: Chapter exercises must be completed. The chapter exercises that are labeled with a portfolio symbol are to be prepared and put into your portfolio. Assessment Exercises The Chapter assessments exercises, at the end of each chapter, must be completed weekly. See the Recap Sheet for specific assessments due in most cases, you may choose up to three assessments to submit. If the assessments are not handed in weekly, you may be dropped from the course. Portfolio: Portfolios will consist of ALL Chapter exercises marked with a portfolio icon, Chapter Assessments exercises, and Performance Assessments.   8. GENERAL COURSEWORK INFORMATION: • DO NOT change any settings in the Windows Operating System. • Always save to your USB Drive. • You may not have some of the design templates, pictures, or fonts requested in the exercises. When that is the case, you may use another template of your choosing.
