Background of Joint Survey on fora • GSC Meeting • TTC proposed a collaboration in fora survey among CJK members • in 2005(GSC10) → Agreed (April.06) • TTC presented the first report of survey at GSC12 • CJK Standard Meeting • CCSA as the convener of Ad-hoc Group on Fora is responsible at CJK9 • (the convener of AHGF is rotated among CJK Members (TTC-> TTA->CCSA) • → Agreed (CJK7)) • CCSA has surveyed and analyzed about 227 fora (excluding fora of CJK) • CCSA will present the revised report of fora survey at GSC14

  3. Highlight of Current Activities • Made a detailed survey over 227 fora world-widely, took the analysis and statistics in the multiple dimensions. The materials can be provided for other PSOs for their further plans and investigations. • Elaborated on the latest technologies and the standardization activities on Home Networks • Analysis on the relationship between the De-facto standards and de-jure standards

  5. Analysis by the regions • According to fora Secretariat, Fora were classified by 4 region, Europe region, North America region, Asia region, and etc Analysis by the regions

Analysis of the fora purpose of activity • De facto standard: a convention, product, or system that has achieved a dominant position by public acceptance or market forces • Pre-standardization: To produce standards which are likely to be contributed to the standard development organization • Implementation & interoperability: specifications for implementation and ensuring interoperability • Others: the fora which aims at future vision, market researching, consulting or enlightenment. Statistics of number of fora with the different active purpose

Challenges-- How to harmonize the De-facto standards Facts: In 2008, the de-facto and interoperability (also related to “fact” ) account for nearly 60% of the fora activities. • Those standards were discussed and produced inside the fora, lack of the related industry-level information from the Standardization Organization • Interoperability issues • Excluding of other technologies Cooperation of the fora and standard organization is needed Stand. Org FORA • harmonization of the fora researching • advancement of the standards • Producing the standard • Market exploration • new technique researching and updating • Pre-standardization

  9. Topic: research of HN standardization Home network is a network with multiple devices connected by wired or wireless technology in a limited area (e.g., inside a home or office), and this network is built to meet the customer requirements and provide services and applications to customers.

  12. Next step • CJK will keep endeavoring collaborating on the Fora/consortia survey and contribute to GSC in the future • Provide for other SDOs in necessary, to share this information in a wide area
