Advanced Practice Center • An Advanced Practice Center (APC) serves the public health community by providing tools and resources, educational materials, trainings, and technical assistance to help public health practitioners address local preparedness challenges.
History of the APC Program • In 2003, NACCHO, a national organization representing local health departments in coordination with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, awarded five local health departments the opportunity to serve as Advanced Practice Centers. • Three additional sites were selected and funded in 2004. • In 2009, SCDHEC Region 7 became an APC.

Innovative Tools and Resources • All APC products are FREE of charge. • Many of the products are available in Microsoft WORD and PDF formats. • Most products are CUSTOMIZABLE to fit the needs and identities of local communities. • Products address Public Health Emergency Preparedness (PHEP) capabilities http://apc.naccho.org
On the Safe Side (PHEP) Capabilities • Toolkit addresses elements of the following capabilities: • Medical Countermeasure Dispensing • Medical Material Management and Distribution • Medical Surge
Lessons Learned • In order to effectively respond, you must maintain: • Personal safety • Safety of your coworkers • Safety of the workplace and integrity of the physical environment • Safety of the patients • If you fail to do these, your efforts to provide care will be compromised.

Hospital Security Assessments • Purpose: • Provide hospitals and law enforcement with a resource for developing security and traffic management plans for mass surge events • Places information in one place for easy reference • Can be used to plan for security and traffic management at other healthcare supported locations (Alternate Care Sites, Decontamination Sites)

Point of Dispensing Assessment • Purpose: • Provide public health and law enforcement with a resource for developing a security and traffic management plan for a point of dispensing. • Places information in one place for easy reference. • Can be used to plan for security and traffic management at other public health supported locations (Community Reception Center, Special Medical Needs Shelter, MOSTT Site, Closed PODs).
