Technical Infrastructure Monitoringfrom the CCC Serge Roy, Jan Stowisek 2nd TS Workshop Archamps May 24 – 26
Outline • Technical Infrastructure Monitoring • Monitoring a Heterogeneous Environment • Tools for the CCC • Project Status and Outlook • Questions Serge ROY, Jan STOWISEK
Technical Infrastructure Monitoring • New software solution for monitoring CERN’s technical infrastructure. • Replaces the Technical Data Server (TDS) • Built on industry standard components and technologies: • Hardware: enterprise servers, industrial PLCs • Software: Java 2 Enterprise Edition, Oracle • Scalable open architecture: • Smooth integration of data source • Easy development of new tools for the CCC Serge ROY, Jan STOWISEK
Heterogeneous Environment Serge ROY, Jan STOWISEK
Data Acquisition Mechanism • Diversity of data sources requires a very flexible data acquisition (DAQ) mechanism • Generic data acquisitioninterface (toolkit API) • Customised message handler for each source Serge ROY, Jan STOWISEK
Heterogeneous Environment • 3 standard data acquisition modules: • LHC Data Interchange Protocol ( DIP ) • OLE for Process Control ( OPC ) • Java Equipment Controller ( JEC) • 2 specialised DAQ modules for interfacing with proprietary systems • ENS • SPS Ventilation (SmartGateway) • Easy development of further modules Serge ROY, Jan STOWISEK
Data Acquisition Layer Serge ROY, Jan STOWISEK
Tools for the CCC Serge ROY, Jan STOWISEK
TIM Viewer • Graphical application for displaying synoptic views • Launched via the TIM Operation Portal • Runs on any Windows, Linux or MacIntosh machine on the CERN network Serge ROY, Jan STOWISEK
TIM Viewer NICE based authentication Integrated data quality control Easy navigation between views Command execution status Zoomable and resizable view window Serge ROY, Jan STOWISEK
Alarm Console • TIM sends alarm information to the LHC Alarm Service (LASER) • CCC operators use LASER alarm console • Suitable for TI operation as developed (by AB-CO) in close collaboration with ex-TCR operators • Same alarm console as other CCC operators • Less development and maintenance effort for TIM • Until LASER becomes operational (Q3 2005), TIM alarms will be shown on CAS alarm screens • CAS -> LASER migration implies no changes to TIM Serge ROY, Jan STOWISEK
LASER Alarm Console Serge ROY, Jan STOWISEK
Historical Data Analysis Selected data exported to LHC Logging System All monitoring data written to short-term log Serge ROY, Jan STOWISEK
Status and Outlook • TIM is going live in June 2005 • First release contains all essential functions for operation • But: more effort is required to • transform TIM from a system to a product • develop tools for smooth maintenance, system configuration and data management • implement the remaining requirements Serge ROY, Jan STOWISEK
