Finding specific newspapers • How would you find an image of the Globe & Mail newspaper from May 2003? • Why would it be important to look at an image of a newspaper page where the story was published? • Where can you find current issues of the Ming Pao Daily (Vancouver edition) in Vancouver? • What about the last few months? • Older? • CARD online to ID ethnic newspapers in Canada

Statistics / Demographics • How might use of statistical or demographic information inform your research proposal? • Key databases & web sites • Statistics Canada, especially the Census and The Daily • UNdata • Statistical agencies for specific countries • Market research sources for consumer information

  6. Practice questions • How many people of South Asian ethnicity live in Canada? • In the city of Vancouver? • Choose a country other than Canada and find the agency similar to Statistics Canada. Do they have data on immigrants or ethnicity / minority background?

Are they available online? • What Canadian government agencies might be interested in policies or statistics about media use by people of different ethnicities in Canada? (HINT: scan the list of departments for ideas)
