Some backgrounds : • Cooperative Movement introduce in Indonesia since 1886 by De wolf von Wasterrode residence in Purwokerto Central Java. • In 1947 First National Cooperative Congress was held in Tasikmalaya and founded the Indonesian Cooperative Organizations (DEKOPIN) • Now there are more than 200 thousand primary cooperatives with around USD 4.6 billion in asset.
Background of Cooperative Act No. 17 /2012. • Affirming the definition, principles and values of ICA Cooperative Identity Statement (ICIS)1995. • Recognizing that Cooperative Development as an important part of National Economy Platform. • Creating Conducive Environment for Cooperatives become autonomous, strong, good system and health (good governance) enterprises. • DEKOPIN (the Indonesian Cooperative Council) as the one and only an umbrella organization which unites, serve and represent all cooperatives in countrywide.
Cooperative Act No. 17 /2012 • The Cooperative Movement in Indonesia established Indonesian Cooperative Council that serves as a vehicle to fight for the interests and aspirations of the cooperatives, in order to empower Cooperative countrywide. (art. 155)
DEKOPIN ROLE’S • Connecting Co-ops aspirations and articulations • Supervision and advocacy on implementing cooperative principles and values • Improving public awareness about co-ops • Promoting and providing cooperative business consultancy. • Representing all cooperative organizations in national and international forum as well.
Type of Cooperatives (art.83) • Consumer Cooperatives Societies Providing consumer goods for members and society • Producers Cooperatives Societies Serving producers in business support and produce some goods. • Services Cooperatives Societies Whole services activities unless saving and loan. • Saving and Credit Cooperatives Societies Doing business in thrift and loan activities only.
Business Sector • Each Cooperative outlines the types of Cooperatives in the Articles of Association which is based on the similarity of business activities and / or economic interests of Members.

STRENGTHENING CO-OPS BUSINESS(base on Cooperative Act 17/2012) • Set up an Institution for Member Deposit Insurance. • Competency Requirement for BOD • Supervisory Body particularly for Credit Coops. • Focusing on Co-ops business sectors regarding members interest. • Recognizing Cooperative Enterprises as legal entity that equal position compare to the private companies in the marketplace.
