Parts of Ecosystems A Study Guide
Parts of Ecosystems A consumer is an animal that gets energy by eating plants or other animals
Parts of Ecosystems Consumers gain energy by eating producers or other consumers
Parts of Ecosystems PLANTS ARE NOT CONSUMERS!
Parts of Ecosystems PLANTS ARE PRODUCERS!!! A producer is an organism that makes it’s own food. All producers are alike in this way!!
Parts of Ecosystems In a pond all plants including algae are producers.
Parts of Ecosystems The living things found in an ecosystem are interdependent. This means that living things DEPEND on each other to meet their needs. Animals depend on plants and other animals for food. But organisms depend on each other for other things too. For example, plants can be a source of shelter for animals and other things too.
Parts of Ecosystems Remember the swollen thorn acacia tree and a type of stinging ant are interdependent. The ants live in and around the tree and if an animal attempts to eat off the tree the ants attack it.
Parts of Ecosystems The decrease of one of these two organisms in a community will cause the decrease in the other because the two populations are INTERDEPENDENT
Parts of Ecosystems In the same manner flowering plants depend on butterflies to carry pollen from flower to flower
Parts of Ecosystems This is Freddie. Freddie is a bearded dragon. His ecosystem consists of an aquarium, tiles, bricks and a light (heat lamp). The light/heat lamp models the sun.
Parts of Ecosystems A population is all the members of a plant or animal in a community. A community is all the living things in an ecosystem. POPULATIONS MAKE UP COMMUNITIES!!!!
Parts of Ecosystems A population is all the members of a plant or animal in a community. A community is all the living things in an ecosystem. POPULATIONS MAKE UP COMMUNITIES!!!!
Parts of Ecosystems All the deer in a forest make up a population
Parts of Ecosystems Trees and birds help each other meet their needs in many ways; making them interdependent. The tree gives the bird shelter from the sun and hides the bird from predators. The birds eat insects that live in the tree.
Parts of Ecosystems The Egyptian Plover feeds on leeches and scraps of food from a crocodile’s teeth. Both organisms benefit proving that they are interdependent!
Parts of Ecosystems Living things like birds do not use energy to make their own food. Birds are consumers; producers use energy to make their own food.
Parts of Ecosystems These are ecosystems.
Parts of Ecosystems All plants and animals depend on sunlight to survive.
Parts of Ecosystems Sunlight is a nonliving part of an ecosystem.
Parts of Ecosystems Plants and their products (fruits and vegetables) contained stored energy gained from sunlight.
