Transport Investing in Regions Strengthening transport’s regional presence is crucial to meet the growth in regional areas and deliver on the new Government’s agenda of bringing services and decisions closer to the people of regional Victoria. This will be achieved through the implementation of a new integrated regional model for transport The new integrated regional model includes new regional Department of Transport (DOT) staff in each region The new regional staff provide extra capacity for DOT in regional Victoria to work more closely with local government, stakeholders and communities. Be conduits for central DOT program areas

Transport Investing in Regions Enhancing Transport’s Capacity to: deliver integrated transport and land use outcomes provide high quality advice on regional freight and economic development issues identify and manage transport growth and demand engage with local government and communities to identify transport needs and deliver practical solutions on the ground

  5. DOT Plan 2011 Transport Challenges - Individual Travellers Meeting demand for public transport services, including demand in growth areas. Improving coordination and connectivity Increasing road use efficiency Provide for more travel choices through walking , cycling and public transport

DOT Plan 2011 Transport Challenges – Freight Movement Accommodating growth in demand for freight activity through Victoria’s ports, on road and rail networks Enabling better distribution of freight movements into and within Melbourne Transport Challenges – Overall Function of Transport System Addressing congestion effects across the transport system Ensuring roads, rail and ports are both safe and resilient for users and the community in general. Planning for the future transport system.

  7. DOT Divisions Community and Place The Community and Place Division works to actively improve the way the department engages with and strengthens Victorian communities. Freight, Logistics and Marine Freight, Logistics and Marine delivers the government's policies in the ports, maritime, freight and logistics sectors in partnership with agencies, industry and the community. The division encourages better use of Victoria's freight network, plans for freight growth and works to overcome critical freight bottlenecks through infrastructure investment. Transport Planning and Programs Transport Planning and Programs works within the portfolio and across government to achieve whole-of-government coordination of transport and land use planning across the respective transport modes (road, rail and marine). It provides strategic advice and long-term plans for transport in Victoria. It contributes to major project and policy documents and strengthens links between key transport and land use authorities.

DOT Divisions Intergovernmental Relations Intergovernmental relations manages DOT’s relationship with the Australian Government, state and territory governments and local government on national policy, regulatory and infrastructure planning and investment issues. Investing In Regions Strong relations with key industry stakeholders Work closely with local government Integrated transport solutions Point of contact for transport issues

  9. Victoria’s Infrastructure Australia Submission East West Link – would provide an alternate cross city route for freight. Submission $30 million for further planning and project development Port of Hasting Planning – preferred site to enhance Victoria’s international port capacity Submission $120 million to prepare for the construction of the first stage of development and associated transport corridor planning Dandenong Rail Capacity – a program of initiatives to increase capacity Submission $30 million to carry out initial planning and development work http://www.transport.vic.gov.au/research
