The first step in the seven step process is to read through all the questions before starting to write. Reading the questions first is important because the writer must know what the question is asking. Be sure to underline the key word which states the type of response to write. Second, the writer must be sure to carefully plan their time. The writer must plan how much time they have to answer the questions because they could run out of time. Figure out how much time to spend on each question. If there is more than one question do the questions with the most points first, and then do the easy questions. Next, make a brief outline in the margin of your paper. An outline is important because it organizes the ideas to put in the essay. By always checking off information in the margin, the writer will not leave out important details. Then the writer must state the question as a topic sentence. To rewrite the question as a topic sentence take out the key word in the question and then rewrite the question as a statement. Next, the writer should give specific examples. It is important to give specific examples because the writer must show the reader what they know about the topic. Specific details include examples, quotes, explanations. Then, the writer needs a concluding sentence. The writer needs a concluding sentence because the reader needs to know the essay is coming to an end. Start with a transition word that is a concluding word. Then, should check over their essay if time permits. Errors in conventions, such as spelling, capitalization, and punctuation can cause the reader to not focus on the content of the essay. Finally, these are the seven steps to writing an effective essay response on a test
