Validate deposits and discrimination with ULSDF and CCV, define hardware and tolerances, test conditions, and select Low Reference Oil. Mitigate risks of engine performance changes, oil consumption, and blocked filters. Obtain parts for tightened tolerances and run initial mini-matrix tests as planned.

C13 OTE PC-10 Test Plan • Validate deposits and discrimination with ULSDF, CCV • Hardware and tolerances defined • Test conditions defined • Low Reference Oil (Ref #1) selected • High Reference Oil being sought • Two companies offering samples but no C13 test history • Possible to run new Oils in matrix • Fall back – test Best Commercial Oil run at PerkinElmer
C13 OTE PC-10 Test Plan • CCV into intake worsens deposits • Introduces variability into deposit test • Risk of Engine performance changes due to blocked filters, turbos • Risk of Lack of oil discrimination • Increases Oil consumption • No time to establish discrimination with confidence on Piston and Turbo deposits. • Use Pseudo CCV system - present set-up but with simulated intake depression at CCV outlet (that is - CCV piped out of engine
C13 OTE PC-10 Test Plan • First set of parts to tightened tolerances should be available 26 July • Pistons with dimensions and ring groove chamfers and groove finish available • Liners • Piston Rings • Top Rings - No Issues meeting tolerances • Second Ring – Issue with meeting tolerances (too thin) • Oil Ring – No Issue with meeting tolerances
C13 PC-10 Plan Initial four test Mini-Matrix: All plans are still scheduled and on target (Sept 04) Fall back would be to run four stands concurrently Other work will be on-going to gain more confidence in Initial Oil Consumption Variability Caterpillar C13 Test Stand being worked on No new Oil and Additive Co. C13 Test stands run yet
