Federal Bureau of Investigation X-files Division www.fbi.gov INTERNAL DEPARTMENT USE ONLY – NOT TO BE DISTRIBUTED From: Agent Percy Daniels To: Assistant Director Skinner Subject: Preliminary briefing for Case Number #J2391 We have completed our initial investigation. Our findings are outlined below. Summary: After receiving the message from our informant we set out to collect as much information as possible regarding the disappearance of the Maya. We were able to confirm that the disappearance occurred right around the year 900 A.D. It is at that point that monument building stopped abruptly. We were not able to determine an exact cause but whatever it was it appears to have happened quickly perhaps something like a plague. We also found numerous mass graves where the victims had been killed in an obviously violent manner. These did not appear to be typical Mayan war victims. The Theories: Our initial review offered four main theories – starvation, war, disease or alien forces. Professional opinion seems to point toward a period of heavy starvation that caused the Mayans to leave for better lands. While our initial review could not rule this out we believe, as our informant implied, that this theory may be too simplistic. We feel that starvation alone would not account for such a rapid decline in society. Starvation, we believe, would have taken years, perhaps even decades, to become a serious enough problem to cause a collapse. Why wouldn’t the Mayans during that time have simply found other ways of farming or moved to more fertile lands? Further Contacts: The investigation in Honduras continues and is being led by Agent Fox Mulder. They have set up camp in a random valley and can be contacted via something that doesn’t exist. We recommend passing our data on to the field agents for further analysis. Maybe they will see something we missed.

Miguel Sanchez is a farmer living in Honduras. His farm is located on lands formerly controlled by the Mayans. We have been watching him very closely since we received the original warning. We were hoping to gain some information on the condition of this land in the past by observing the people living their today. Recently we intercepted a startling letter from Mr. Sanchez detailing problems he is having with his farm. Main buildings, Sanchez Farm Copan, Honduras, 2009
Dear mother, Times have gotten tough here in the valley. More and more families have been moving here and we’ve had to grow more food every year just to feed them all. We used to get by just farming once every couple years. Now though we are planting every year. And we are getting less and less corn each time even with the same amount of land and seeds. A man came to town a few weeks ago and said we needed to let the land rest to rebuild strength. Well sure, of course, but we don’t really have a choice. We have people to feed. There are now about 25,000 people living here - about the same as when our ancestors fled. The rains keep coming but the land doesn’t seem to care. It is dry and broken. I don’t know how long we can last like this. I know I must be strong like the Maya warriors of old but we’ve never suffered quite like this. Sincerely, Miguel

Mayan Skull Binding Head binding also called Artificial cranial deformation is a form of body alteration in which the skull of a human being is intentionally deformed. The head binding process typically begins approximately a month after birth, as the skull is most pliable at this time, and continues for about six months. It is done by distorting the normal growth of a child’s skull by applying force. Flat shapes, elongated ones (produced by binding between two pieces of wood), rounded ones (binding in cloth) and conical ones are among the most utilized shapes. Although there is no universal reason for this practice, cranial deformation was probably performed to signify group affiliation, or to demonstrate social status. It could be aimed at creating a skull shape which is aesthetically more pleasing or associated with desirable attributes. In the Americas … the Maya, Inca, and certain tribes of North American natives performed the custom. In North America the practice was especially known among the Chinookan tribes of the Northwest and the Choctaw of the Southeast.
Ancient Aliens??? For years alien chasers have been trying to convince the world elongated skulls found among some ancient civilizations on Earth were actually those of extraterrestrials who visited our planet thousands of years ago. This theory claims that advanced ETs visited ancient civilizations on Earth several thousands of years ago and taught people how to build ancient monuments such as the Egyptian and Mayan pyramids. The theories even claim these superior beings ended up being held as leaders or even revered as gods. The theories began when deformed and elongated skulls were found among many of our ancestor civilizations across the globe including Egypt, Maya, and Peru – with conspiracy theorists believing they were from large-headed alien visitors. More recently, it has been shown that several ancient cultures elongated their skulls on purpose by binding infants heads through pieces of wood. In response, after the alien elongated skulls theories were debunked, ET believers came up with a counter claim, that humans on Earth purposefully elongated their skulls to immitate their alien leaders or Gods.
