9. Catholic Reformation/Counter –Reformation:The Catholic Church’s attempt to stop Martin Luther & protesters by fixing church problems. Called the “Counter-Reformation.”(stopped selling indulgences, changed church teachings, worked to spread Catholicism to new areas and stop protestantism) In order to keep people from leaving the Catholic Church the leaders from the church founded new religious orders and tried to clarify official teachings. The Jesuits was a religious order made to serve the Pope and the Church.
10. Spanish Inquisition:part of the Catholic effort to get rid of protesters, in Spain. All Jews, Muslims, and non-Catholics ordered to leave or be punished. Books written by Martin Luther, William Tyndale, & John Calvin were burned by Catholic authorities.
