Passing the Praxis II PLT Principles of Learning and Teaching
Format • 24 Multiple Choice questions • 12 “Constructed Response” questions • 2 hour time limit
Resources • http://literacymethods.wikispaces.com/Passing+the+Praxis+PLT • Review information (flash cards) • Resources (Pearson) • Information about the exam
Characteristics of Readers • Lots of papers to read • Possibly tired • Possibly bored • Possibly on a tight deadline • May not be motivated to look for ways they can give points
Make the parts of your answers clear • Two “WHATs” • Two “WHYs” “Provide two suggestions and for each one explain the benefits” Suggestion 1: WHAT because WHY Suggestion 2: WHAT because WHY
Even quality across all answers • Don’t make your first answer lengthy and then run out of time so your last answers are very short. • Answer in such a way that you can maintain the same quality across all answers.
No extra words • Don’t write transitions or introductions • Focus the bulk of your writing on making a good description of your suggestion and a good description of the benefits of your suggestion.
Read questions first • Reading the questions first will allow you to focus on the aspects of the case history that most apply .
Activate brain • Use the structure of the test to your advantage: • Quick pass through multiple choice • First case history—answer both questions • Second quick pass through multiple choice—you will probably get more answers here. • Keep alternating until your test is done
