  2. General Information • Before the industrial Revolution most people made their clothes and daily needs at home. The Industrial Revolution was a period of time when there was a rapid growth in the use of machines and production. • Most developments were in textiles, steam power, and iron making industries.

  3. When and how it started • This machine made Britain more technology advanced, so British Parliament passed a law saying no one who worked in a factory or was a skilled mechanic could leave the country, in fear that the ideas of factories would reach to other countries. • The Industrial Revolution took place in the 17 and 18 hundreds. • It started in Britain with a guy named James Hargeaves who invented the first cotton mill the spinning Jenny.

  4. Samuel Slater • Samuel Slater was the first mill owner in America in 1793. • Samuel Slater, who worked at a textile mill as a kid, Immigrated to the United States. • Slater applied for a job to work machines. He easily got the job and started working with Moses Brown and his son. Eventually the three of them started their own mill factory. • This was the start of the Industrial revolution in America.

  5. Manufacturing In the United States • Manufacturing in the United States grew slowly. • Few people in America decided to work in factories if they could own their own farm and do things the way they wanted to do them. • Also, the British manufacturers produced goods less expensively than American businesses could.
