UL: SIF1 & The Shannon Consortium (1) UL only project: Expansion and development of the Graduate School + (2) Shannon Consortium: Regional Graduate Training Network Partners: • University of Limerick • Institute of Technology, Tralee • Mary Immaculate College, Limerick • Limerick Institute of Technology

  3. Generic and transferable skills programmes • Regional Graduate Training Co-ordinator • Contacts in each of the partner institutes • Quota of places for each institute • Difficulty of distance (Tralee): some courses delivered in Tralee

  4. Skills Training suite • About 40 short half-day and full day courses • Largely anticipated and satisfy the IUA Skills Statement • Issue of monitoring these: which student has completed which course • Need to supply a detailed Transcript / Diploma Supplement

  5. Other modules • Domain specific modules are being delivered or being developed within departments and Faculties • These go through the UL accreditation process • ‘Writing Science and Engineering’ via web cast from UL delivered to TCD and Tyndall Institute (UCC) available as video-link

  6. Accreditation: ECTS • Currently in progress • UL APRC (Academic Programme Review Committee) • Courses are grouped according to skill set e.g. communication skills, into modules of 3 and 6 ECTS • Will be delivered in flexible format and timing • Students will register for these modules. • Assessment by portfolio

Epigeum PGR e-training modules • Spin off company from Imperial College London • Over 60 universities involved in UK, IRL and worldwide • Important for training part-time and off-campus PGRs • Can be delivered through institutions’ VLE (Sulis-Sakai in UL) • Can be monitored: student use can be verified

  10. Monitoring • Graduate School will monitor the skills suite of courses • Once students complete a module, this will be reported to the central university student records’ system • Central System will produce transcript
