Welcome • Agenda • Introduce program • Review program elements • Solicit feedback • Review restraint methodology
Program Objective • Reduce losses due to damage or destruction of high value building contents during a seismic event • Establish a program to encourage restraint of high value equipment in Stanford laboratories and offices
Program Objective • Facilitate the process to reduce administrative barriers to restraining equipment by • Providing instructions on proper restraint techniques • Provide monetary incentive • Establish a system to encourage maintenance of restraints over time
Responsibilities • EH&S • Develop restraint guidance on most commonly used equipment • Develop system for collecting equipment information • Review and process matching funds requests • Reimburse departments after restraints have been completed • Update restraint catalog as needed
Responsibilities • Laboratories • Identify high value equipment • Review restraint recommendations • Submit a matching funds request • Purchase restraints or engage contractor to perform work • Certify that restraints have been completed • Maintain equipment restraints over time • Provide feedback on restraint instructions • Add to the catalog of examples by submitting photographs of restrained equipment
Online tool • Concept • A system to facilitate the collection and sharing of information regarding seismic restraints • Facilitate the collection of data by laboratories • Collect feedback on restraint recommendations • Share information about previous experiences with new users
Ideal Solution • Tie in to Sunflower • Enter the equipment SU ID# and autofill the required data • After equipment has been restrained, make an entry in the system indicating that it has been completed • Use the annual equipment inventory process to verify that equipment is still restrained
Interim solution • Collect the data • Process reimbursements
Outstanding Issues • Rollout process options • First come/first served • Selected areas • Submission deadline with approval based on cost/benefit ratio
Name that Program Contest • Submit a name for the program • NSHM just doesn’t have that ring
