What You Should Know… • 2-D bar codes, or Matrix codes • Carry information vertically and horizontally • 1-D codes=20 characters • 2-D codes=4000 characters • Small • Easy to scan
How a QR Code Works Finder Pattern • Arrangement of squares • Detects the size, direction and angle Alignment Pattern • Pattern of squares • Helps determine distortion Margins • Used for error • Can be scanned if smudged or obscured
Using the Bar Codes • Camera processes the image • Software analyzes the image • Identifies the squares of alignment patterns and squares that contain data • Compensates for distortion or obscured areas • Examines the black and white square jumbles • Outputs data contained within square jumbles
