  1. The Pearl of Great Value

  2. The World’s Concept of Great Value Having financial security- Being rich (Luke 12:15) Enjoying earthly pleasures (Luke 8:14) Human Wisdom & Education (1 Cor. 1:20-25) Prestige & Prominence in Man’s Sight (Matthew 6:1) Be Healthy & Have a Good Life (Luke 5:31-32) You might have value in the eyes of the world but it’s not the most important…our relationship to God is. (Matthew 16:26)

  3. The Value of the Pearl Having the peace that passes all human understanding (Philippians 4:6-7) Godliness + Contentment = Great Gain (1 Timothy 6:6-8) It truly satisfies your hunger & thirst (Matthew 5:6; John 4:10-14; 6:35) It has eternal benefit- Everlasting Life (1 John 5:11-13)

  4. The Kingdom of Heaven is Like a Merchant He was desirous of better things and we should be also (Matthew 13:45-46; 7:7-8; Galatians 1:10) He was able to discern true values & so should we (Acts 17:11; Proverbs 2:1-5; Hebrews 5:14) He was determined to obtain it (Luke 13:24; Hebrews 12:2-3; 1 Corinthians 15:58) Are you like this merchant in seeking the kingdom of heaven first (Matthew 6:33)?

  5. The Decision to Sell Everything and Purchase It Once the great value was determined, it was immediate. In the same way it should be of our obedience. (Hebrews 5:8-9; 2 Cor. 6:2; Acts 2:41; 8:38; 10:33) It was costly! He gave up everything he possessed in order to purchase it (Matthew 13:46). We must be willing to do the same or we cannot be His disciple (Luke 14:33). Not in terms of dollars and cents as we cannot purchase or merit salvation (1 Peter 1:18-19; Luke 17:10).

  6. The Decision to Sell Everything and Purchase It We were purchased with the blood of Christ, and therefore we should deny ourselves and offer up our bodies as a living sacrifice for Him. (1 Cor. 6:19-20; Luke 9:23; 1 Pt. 2:24; Rom. 12:1-2) Have you realized the great value of Jesus Christ redeeming your soul from eternal torment? (Romans 5:9) Have you decided to give up your worldly treasures for Christ?

  7. Conclusion What good will your riches, possessions, pleasures, achievements, awards, beauty, health, etc. do for you in the Judgment Day if you haven’t sought the kingdom of God first? You won’t be able to give anything in exchange for your soul then! If you haven’t done so, realize the great value of eternal life and obey the gospel or be restored today while you have time and opportunity!
