  1. Muscles ( Important stuff you should have in your notes) Mrs. Wharton’s Science Class

  2. Purpose • The purpose of the muscular system is to give the body strength and to give the body its final shape.

  3. Muscles Types • Voluntary- You control ( smiling or turning the pages in a book) • Involuntary- You don’t control ( heart beating, digestive system)

  4. Muscle Tissue Types • Skeletal- attached to the bones of your skeleton • Tendon- attaches muscle to bone • Striated or striped.

  5. Muscle Tissue Types • Smooth Muscle- these are involuntary because they work automatically. Usually found inside organs. • Cardiac Muscles- Found in the heart. These are involuntary.

  6. Works in pairs • Because muscle cells can only contract, not extend, skeletal muscles must work in pairs. • While one muscles contracts, the other relaxes to its original length. It is important to exercise to maintain muscular strength and growth!!!!
