2. Enterprise Skills Portfolio • The Enterprise Skills Portfolio has been developed because of the importance that enterprise skills have in the lives of young people. • It provides a process for students to document, assess and report their enterprise learning, to determine their qualities and areas to work on, and to plan for improvement.  

3. Aims of the Professional Development The aims of this professional development session are to: • Introduce the Enterprise Skills Portfolio. • Explain it’s purpose and structure. • Show you through the range of activities provided for students in the Portfolio. • Ask you to think about how the principles of the Portfolio and the activities provided can be used by your students.

4. Purpose The purpose of the Enterprise Skills Portfolio is to support students to: • Know and use the language of enterprise education. • Develop enterprise attitudes and skills through learning contexts across the curriculum. • Recognise and acknowledge the importance of enterprise skills. • Provide a medium for documenting, assessing and reporting learning in enterprise education.

5. Focus • The Enterprise Skills Portfolio is based on two principles of assessment: 1.  Assessment for learning 2. Assessment of learning • The focus of the Portfoliois on assessing for learning, with students taking the primary role in the assessment and reporting process.

7. The Enterprise Skills Story • The Enterprise Skills Story is featured in the Enterprise Skills Portfolio. It has been designed to encourage students to consider the language of enterprise education and ways to demonstrate enterprise skills.

8. Enterprise Skills Portfolio Teachers Handbook • Designed to support teachers in the teaching and learning process. • The tools provided are intended to be adapted and improved to suit your own learning contexts. • Feel free to copy them and change them.

9. Developing the student Enterprise Skills Portfolio • The following resource provides a range of ideas and activities to support students to think about and develop their enterprise skills. • A practical way to assist students to assemble and maintain these activities and the evidence they collect, is to provide each student with a folder. • Each of the activities, information provided, and the evidence collected by students can be inserted into the folder as part of documenting the process of student learning.

10. 1. Personal Reflections • The purpose of this section is to begin the process of personal reflection and evaluation which is continued and developed throughout the Enterprise Skills Portfolio. • The first two activities are designed to focus the attention of your students on themselves, their interests and their skills. Subsequent activities will focus more on their skills, specifically their enterprise skills.

12. Activity 1.2 My Qualities Record your qualities and examples from your life in this chart. Some examples are included to help your thinking.

Your enterprise skills • Provides a series of activities designed to assist students and teachers to understand and document the enterprise skills and students’ enterprise learning. • The initial purpose of these activities is to acquaint students with the language of the enterprise skills, and for teachers and students to share this language through discussions and the activities that follow. • Once students understand the language of the enterprise skills, they can then document their skills by providing evidence of their learning.

14. Activity 2.1 Sharing the Language of Enterprise Education This activity is designed as an exercise for students and teachers to discuss and share the language of enterprise education.

15. Activity 2.2 Enterprise Skills Discovery Activity This activity is designed to give students the opportunity to think about and record their enterprise skills based on past activities they have been involved in.

16. Activity 2.3 Sample of Enterprise Learning This activity is designed to give students the opportunity to include a sample (or samples) of their enterprise learning in their Enterprise Skills Portfolio. .

17. Assessment of sample of work Once students have added their sample of enterprise learning, they are asked to do an assessment using the assessment grid below.

Demonstrating the Enterprise Skills • The purpose of the activities in this section is to encourage students to think about their skills, attitudes and behaviours related to the enterprise skills, as part of a process of reflection and improvement. • Students are asked to Select – Collect – Reflect • Eight activities based on the enterprise attributes are provided. Two of these are shown following:

19. Enterprise Skills Story • The activities in this section are built around the Enterprise Skills Story. • Ithighlights the language of enterprise education. The posters can be printed and displayed in your classroom. • The story presents each of the enterprise attributes and provides information to support students to reflect on and assess their own enterprise skills.

20. Activity 3.1 Demonstrating Initiative and Drive The purpose of this activity is to promote initiative and drive among students, and to provide opportunities for students to recognise and document their initiative and drive qualities.

21. Activity 3.2 Demonstrating being Creative and Innovative The purpose of this activity is to promote skills in being creative and innovative among students, and to provide opportunities for students to recognise and document their creativity and innovation qualities.

22. Think about … • The Enterprise Skills Portfolio provides a separate activity for each of the enterprise skills. • Although it is not necessary to complete all the activities, students should be encouraged to think about how they are performing in each of the areas. • This is important because the assessment and reporting activities include all the enterprise skills.

Assessing Enterprise Learning • This section provides a series of activities designed to assist students and teachers working together to assess the enterprise skills and students’ enterprise learning. • They can be done in sequence or selected individually. • They are intended to be changed and adapted to suit your needs.

24. Activity 4.1 Enterprise Skills Assessment The following task is designed for students to assess their own enterprise skills. Use the instructions to guide students through the task. Rating Scale: 1 = I’m not like this2 = Sometimes I’m like this 3 = I’m okay but not great at this 4 = I’m good at this.5 = I’m very good at this.

25. Activity 4.5 Describing Your Enterprise Skills This activity is designed to support students to recognise, document and assess their enterprise skills. Students provide an example of how they have demonstrated each of the enterprise attributes, and assess themselves using the rating scale below. Finally, they are asked to make a comment about their self-assessment rating.

26. 5. Reporting Enterprise Learning • This section presents a range of approaches to assessing and reporting the enterprise skills. You may copy and adapt them to suit your own needs. • It is not intended that you use all of them, but select the ones that suit you best.

27. Sharing the responsibility • It is intended that the assessment and reporting process is a participatory one, with you and the student sharing the responsibility for reviewing and assessing their work, and students having a central role in the assessment and reporting process. • Think about how you would use Group Work and Discussion to support students to demonstrate enterprise skills through these activities.

28. 5.1 Enterprise Skills Assessment The following Enterprise Skills Assessment is a framework for assessing and reporting students’ enterprise skills. The format provides the opportunity for both students and teachers to rate the enterprise skills.

29. 5.2 Report on an Enterprise Learning Project The following report format is designed for students to complete an assessment and report on an enterprise project they have completed.

30. 5.3 Enterprise Skills Report A simple report that can be used by student and/or teacher.

Constructing an Enterprise Learning Report • The final activity in the Enterprise Skills Portfolio is designed for students to construct their own enterprise report. • The purpose of this activity is to engage students with the process of assessment and reporting of their enterprise learning, and to enhance their understanding of the language of enterprise education.

32. 5.4 Constructing an Enterprise Learning Report Now that you have had experience of the assessment and reporting of enterprise skills, you can try to construct you own enterprise report. This exercise will help you to better understand the language of enterprise education, appreciate the process of assessment and reporting, and further support your enterprise learning. • Step 1 What skills or aspects of learning do you want to report on? The enterprise report formats shown in Activities 5.1, 5.2 and 5.3 are based on the enterprise skills. You may wish to use these, or some of these, or make your own list of skills and/or aspects of learning you wish to report on. • Step 2 Describe each of the identified skills or aspects of learning. Once you have identified your list of the skills or aspects of learning that will be the focus of your report, you need to describe each of those you have listed. • Step 3 Determine your assessment criteria. Determine your assessment criteria as you did for Activity 5.2. • Step 4 Make your assessment matrix. Make an assessment matrix using one of the formats shown following, or make up another format of your own.
