a) s = F/A, so s1 = F1/A1 and s2 = F2/A2 and therefore s1/s2 = (F1/F2)×(A2/A1) if F1=F2 and A1>A2, then s1/s2 = A2/A1 < 1 or s1 < s2 s/e = E, so e = s/E = F/(AE), so e1 = F1/(A1E1) and e2 = F2/(A2E2), and therefore e1/e2 = (F1/F2)×(A2E2/A1E1) if F1=F2 and A1>A2, but we don’t know anything about E1 and E2, we cannot determine whether e1 is < or = or > e2 Try (b) yourself!
