  1. Since 1845, the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) has had one mission— the Great Commission.

  2. “Go therefore, and make disciples of all the nations.” (Matthew 28:19, NKJ)

  3. The KBC Mission Statement The mission of the Kentucky Baptist Convention is to assist Kentucky Baptist Convention churches and ministries and associations…

  4. The KBC Mission Statement …in connecting all people to Jesus Christ.

  5. The history

  6. Prior to 1925, SBC entities competed with one another for the churches’ missions gifts.

  7. Entities had to raise funds church by church. The process was cumbersome, inefficient and ineffective.

  8. Then a new approach originated in Kentucky.

  9. In 1915, Boyce Taylor, pastor of FBC, Murray developed a plan for unified giving.

  10. Through this plan, offerings were divided among various ministries on a predetermined percentage basis.

  11. The SBC used a similar approach in 1919 with the 75 Million Campaign.

  12. This led to the launch of the Cooperative Program in 1925.

  13. In Kentucky, more than $660 million has been given to share the Gospel through CP.

  14. The process

  15. The process begins when you give yourself to God. (2 Corinthians 8:5)

  16. Out of gratitude and obedience to God, you give back to the Lord through your church.

  17. Your church prayerfully decides how much of its undesignated gifts will be committed to CP Missions.

  18. Messengers to the KBC annual meeting, elected by local churches, decide how CP gifts are divided.

  19. Here in Kentucky, 37.32% is sent to the SBC; 36.83% funds KBC Mission Board ministries; and 25.85% supports Christian education and KBC entities. - 2009-10 CP budget goals

  20. Messengers from across the country gather during the SBC to decide how its CP gifts will be used to train, send, and reach people.

  21. People around the world hear the gospel and receive Christ.
