Priority Training • A full programme of training courses, based on the needs already identified by the countries, will be developed. • Efforts will be made to keep costs down by trying to mobilise the EU and EFTA NSIs who provide the ESTP courses to repeat some courses for MED countries. • The training courses will be mainly statistical, but there is also a demand for some management and organisational courses. • Some horizontal topics may also be included, such as classifications, quality in statistics, use of administrative sources, human resources, etc. Name of the presentation
Priority Training • Special Training for Trainers courses will also be organised, so that the NSIs can develop their own in-house training facilities. • Within MEDSTAT II, technical assistance was provided to help some countries create and organise internal training units and training programmes. These actions will continue in MEDSTAT III, particularly to provide support to the fledgling training units until they are well-established. Name of the presentation

The Proposed Role of Eurostat It is proposed that some of the work previously undertaken by the MEDSTAT II contractors will be taken over by Eurostat. • Hosting the MEDSTAT Directors Committee, • Coordination of countries, • Financing of participation of MPCs in relevant Eurostat and international conferences and seminars, • Data collection and production of publications, and • Some donor coordination. The Challenge The MEDSTAT II evaluators recommended that the Partner countries, together with Eurostat and other interested bodies, explore options to follow the Medstat series of programmes with a permanent statistical coordination and cooperation facility for the region. Name of the presentation
