Engagement in the HIV Care Continuum among Female Sex Workers in Two West African Countries Objective Describe engagement in the HIV care continuum among FSW in Burkina Faso and Togo Sheree Schwartz, Erin Papworth, Odette Ky-Zerbo, Gautier Ouedraogo, CesaireSamadoulougou, Andrea Wirtz, AouaKone, HalidouBanse, Marcel Louge, Seni Kouanda, Stefan Baral UNAIDS, AIDSinfo
Results: • 1380 FSW enrolled • Crude HIV prevalence19.9% Methods: FSW recruited using respondent driven sampling across 4 sites in Burkina Faso (Ouagadougou and Bobo-Dioulasso) and Togo (Kara and Lomé) from Jan-Jul 2013
Results: Predictors of reporting awareness of HIV infection status in multivariate model: • Older age, Less formal education, Married/cohabitating, Engaged in sex work for >2 years Conclusions: • HIV diagnosis constitutes the greatest gap • Among FSW reportedly aware that they were living with HIV, the majority were on ART…but still ~32% • Younger, single FSW recently entering sex work were most likely to be unaware of their HIV status • Interventions to increase frequency of voluntary HCT are needed to prevent and treat infections among FSW Prevalence ratios estimated using robust Poisson regression. Standard errors accounted for the initial recruitment seeds in each recruitment chain. N=265 as some demographic information was missing for 10 FSW living with HIV. * p<0.05, ** p<0.01, *** p<0.001
