  2. National School Sport Week “Lloyds TSB National School Sport Week is Britain’s largest celebration of school sport. The 2011 week saw 14,000 schools and five million young people taking part – and the 2012 week promises to be bigger and better!” (www.schoolsportweek.org) Bedford Academy key drivers: • Participation in sport • Enjoyment of physical activity • Encouraging a competitive element through sport • Competing for the Village Cup!!! • Understanding the values and importance of sportsmanship • Raising the profile of the Olympics across the curriculum

Outline for the week • Mon: 9 Olympic challenge (9’s off timetable) • Tues: Leadership day (Feeder schools) • Wed: Target review day (No lessons) • Thu: Olympic PE lessons (Across curriculum) • Fri: Olympic PE lessons (Across curriculum) Info: • Year 9’s to come in PE kit on Monday! (Warm clothes) • Extra-curricular/enrichment activities display • Website information for parents/staff

Implications for students • Year 9 students to come to school in full PE kit (MONDAY) • A new PE enrichment programme is set up for students to participate in • You will be participating in Olympic themed lessons in other curriculum subjects • International culture sale on Friday 29th, taking place outside Bunyan Centre • Charity events (dodge ball tournament) to raise money for BHF • Score points for your village that go towards the village cup in your PE lessons/tutor time!

  7. Lesson Themes/Ideas! Departments to come up with own ideas/themes for sporting linked lessons? • Design (Design an Olympic kit for Great Britain Athletes?) • ICT (Create a leaflet on why tourists should visit the games?) • MUSIC (Theme tune for the Olympic BBC coverage?) • HUMS (Timeline of British medal winners since the games began?) • BUSINESS (Plan and cost a day out to an Olympic event of choice?) • ENGLISH (Debate the positive/negative impact of the Olympics on Britain?) • ART (Create a mural that captures the ethos and colour of the games)
