Dale County High School Softball Team Rules Certain rules and regulations are essential for the efficient operation of any organization. Such is certainly the case with our girls athletics. It is a privilege not a right to be on this team. As a member of this team you will possess certain qualities such as commitment, dedication, discipline, strength of character. As such, I have confidence that you will conduct yourselves accordingly:
General Attributes: • Attitude: A positive attitude is a must. Many important thoughts come to mind when the term “good attitude” is mentioned. Each team member should work to be the recipient of the greatest compliment” she has a super attitude” • Effort: Effort is of supreme importance. We must all give 110% all the time in order to achieve our greatest potential both as individuals and as a team. • Sportsmanship: This term entails far too many concepts to enumerate them here. However, an adequate description of this term is, simply put, “show class.” Under no circumstances will a lack of class be tolerated!
Punctuality: • Tardiness is simply not allowable. We must begin practice on time; depart for road trips scheduled, conduct pre-game protocol as planned, etc. Therefore, the following will be strictly adhered to: • Sprints/Hills for the individual per each minute an athlete is late for practice, road trips, games, etc. • If there is an unavoidable reason that will cause you to be late, you must call ahead of time. If I am unable to take your call, leave messages on both the School and my cell phone (334-983-3541 & 251-463-8559). If you fail to call, the tardiness will be viewed as unexcused. • If you are on time, you are LATE!! • Taping and injury treatments should be taken care of before practice time.
Attendance: • There are very few acceptable excuses for absence from practice or required team activities Examples include: death in the family, contagious illness (documented by a doctor). Should one of these situations occur, you must notify me prior to the absence. If you fail to do so, the absence will be considered unexcused. Also, injured athletes should still attend practice. Treatments can be taken care of both before and after practices, unless special arrangements are made. Consequences: • The penalty for the first unexcused absence will be 20 sprints/hills • The penalty for the second unexcused absence will be 40 sprints/hills, one game suspension, and a serious discussion of permanent expulsion from the team. • A third unexcused absence is indicative of a tremendous lack of commitment and is reasonable grounds for expulsion from the program. Failure to come to practice the day before a game will result in a game suspension
Academics: • Remember you are a student first. We want you to get a diploma at Dale County High School • Grades will be monitored throughout each 9 weeks. • Failure of an athlete to turn in required paperwork (grade reports, various, written assignments, etc.) will result in punishment upon coaches discretion. • Failure to come to school on the day of a game, you will not participate • Miscellaneous Issues: • Under no circumstances will be throwing of equipment be tolerated. • No one leaves the facility until all trash has been picked up along with all equipment put up to desired place. If you decide to take your child while we are cleaning up, your child we be punished. We are a team and we will take pride in our facilities together.
Parents: • If you have a problem or complaint that you would like to speak with one of the coaches contact the main office and set a meeting up. • I will not talk to a frustrated parent before, during or after a game. I will not be happy after a lose and when we win I would like to enjoy it. • If you have a bad attitude toward the coach and talk negative about us at home your child will do the same and will not be a coachable kid. • Please do not try and coach your kid from the stands. That is the coaches job. Your kid gets enough criticism from the coaches after a mistake. When and if you holler at your kid remember it embarrasses them and their head won’t be in the game and focused on it. • The dugout is off limits to parents. • If you trust me enough for your child to try out and make the team then the time that we are at practice or on the field that child is mine! I am responsible for them. • If you decide to take your child off the field. They will be removed from the team immediately and will not return. AHSAA rule
Teaching Accountability • Contact with chain of command should be made from the player. • We want to talk to our players. • We want our players to be at practice. • The greatest adjustment for some of them will be accountability.
Accountability • “It is not only what we do, but also what we do not do, for which we are accountable.” (Moliere)
