  2. Chapter 1 Objectives • Understand the course requirements • Become familiar with the Adobe InDesign CS6 environment • Identify and use basic panels and tools • Learn to use keyboard shortcuts • Learn the concepts of frames, fill and stroke • Customize your workspace • Save and print documents

  3. Your Syllabus • Includes required projects and reading. • Describes attendance and grading policies. • Is an agreement between student and instructor. • Your syllabus should be read and should be saved!

About Exploring Adobe InDesign CS6 • It’s based on the concept that you need to know software, design and typography. • Includes in-chapter projects and end-of-chapter projects. • Find artwork and text files fromwww.cengagebrain.com • Read the Getting Started section in Chapter 1. • Modify InDesign preferences as described in the Getting Started section in Chapter 1.

  5. The importance of keyboard shortcuts… • They save time. • They should be memorized. • Knowing them will make you faster than your peers. Look for these keyboard shortcut icons in each chapter!

Tips for Success • Practice using InDesign for at least 30 minutes each day. • Watch the demonstrations and read the corresponding chapter in the textbook. • Complete the review questions. • Save frequently, and make back ups of your work. • Do all the projects, using keyboardshortcuts whenever possible!
