Christine Tobin, Dean of Studentsctobin@shawtech.org • Daily attendance is crucial for success! • Attendance Policy (Handbook pgs. 18-20) • Students with 7 or more unvalidated absences per term—will fail all classes with a maximum grade of 59% • Students cannot have 2 sets of 5 unvalidated absences—ineligible for participation in extracurricular activities (clubs, sports, school dances, proms, SkillsUSA competition, etc.) • Attendance impacts student success & employability; SVTHS career readiness
Attendance...continued • Validated absences: 1) Documented illnesses with written verification from an MD or medical facility visited by the student on the date of absences; 2) Court appearance documented by a written court verification; 3) Hospitalization • Attendance/Behavior Monitor; Heather Tate (978 671-3634). Call if your child will not be in school • Students dismissed cannot participate in an extracurricular activity on day of dismissal unless they return with a MD note. Students that are dismissed through the nurse should be cleared medically before they can participate the day of nurse dismissal.

Shop Survey/Placement Process • Freshmen will complete 3 surveys (3rd cycle, 6th cycle and 9th cycle) • Friday, February 28th—Guidance Counselors facilitate the final selection process & students bring home final selection paperwork (top 3) for parent signature/return • Monday, March 2nd—Selection forms due with Parent Signature • March 2nd-March 6th–Guidance conducts placement process • Friday, March 6th—Permanent Freshmen shop assignments are issued via email from Principal • Monday, March 9th—Students begin Permanent shop
