What is the GED Compass? The GED Compass is a website that contains: • Information about the GED test in New York • Information about the Official Practice Test • Trustworthy links related to the GED test for prospective test takers • Videos of GED students of all ages, people who have passed the GED, parents of GED students, and GED Teachers • GED Program Locator • GED Test Seat Reservation System
Who uses the GED Compass • Designed for prospective GED Test takers, pre-GED students, parents of GED students, counselors, GED Test site personnel, GED Prep Program staff, and policy makers • Currently have 1907 registered users • In the last year we have had 18,054 site visits with 97,221 page views.
What the GED Compass looks like GED Compass for New York City and for New York State will contain most of the same content
The two places the content will be different are • the Program Locator • the Seat Reservation System as the search criteria will change depending on the user’s selected location

A screen will come up with a map of New York State and a list of all the counties. The user is asked to select the county where they would like to take a class
Depending on the county the user selects, a different list of search criteria will come up. For New York City the search criteria will look like this:
In New York City because of age constraints we narrow the search by asking the user to indicate if they are over or under 17 In the rest of New York State the same thing can be done or programs can stipulate what ages they serve as part of their program description
For counties outside New York City the search criteria could include: • county • zip code • bus routes • driving directions • type of instruction • age
Depending on the search criteria selected by the user, a list of programs will appear. If a zip code is included the results will be listed based on proximity and will include the distance to the education program.

Depending on the county the user selects, a different list of search criteria will come up. Location and test date are the basic search criteria.
Test Manager Login On GED Compass website, click on the Sign-in box and enter your Test Manager user name and password
Test Site Manager Homepage As a Test Site Manager, your homepage includes • My Profile • My Messages • My Sites • My Schedule • Review Applicants
My Messages My Messages is where you can compose, send, and review messages to entire test cohorts by test date
My Sites My Sites is where you can add or edit test site information
My Schedule My Schedule is where you can add New Test Dates and edit existing test dates
Review Applicants Review Applicants allows you to review all the applicants who have reserved seats by test date.
Review Applicants After you select an applicant you can also view their application and confirm their registration
Adding a New Test Date To add a new test date: • Click on the My Schedule Tab • Click Add a New Test Date • On the next screen, select a date • Select a test site • Click Insert
Adding a New Test Date After clicking Insert, this screen will appear where you can add more information about the test date including: • Language • Total Seats • Private Seats • Test Subjects • Multiple test dates • Age restrictions
Adding a New Test Date Once you click Update the information will calculate and show the amount of seat available to the public. The Private seats can only be assigned internally by your staff.
Public User Login On GED Compass website, click on the Sign-in box and enter your public user name and password
Public User Homepage As a Public User, your homepage includes • My Account • My Profile • Reserve a Seat • My Application • GED Checklist • Test Date Note
My Account My Account shows you application and registration status, any messages sent by test sites and any general alerts
MyProfile My Profile includes questions that help identify the specific documents the user will need when registering for the GED test. The user can also change their password here
Reserve a Seat Reserve a Seat is where the user can search for a test date by various criteria. For the State version we will add other criteria like County
Reserve a Seat Once the user has clicked Search, a list of test sites and dates appears. The user can select the test they want to reserve. In New York City if the user has indicated that they are under 18 years of age, they will see contact information for referral centers that can counsel them on the best way for them to access the GED test.
Reserve a Seat Once a test is selected, the contact information and other test dates at the same site will be displayed. Clicking Select will reserve a seat at that test date
My Application My Application allows the user to fill out the entire GED Application online and save it. For ease of use it is broken into multiple sections which are saved separately so the user can stop and continue at any time.
GED Checklist The GED Checklist will show the user where they are in the process of reserving a GED Test seat and completing all the supporting documentation
Test Date Note The Test Date Note will include the test date the user has reserved and indicate if the document review is pending or completed.
