Broadband Mapping • Project Funded by the NTIA/Dept of Commerce for Five Years Through 2014 • Map BB Availability and Adoption • Collect Data from Service Providers and Community Anchor Institutions (CAIs) • Provide the Data to NTIA in Required Formats to Create a National BB Map by February 2011

Why This Is Important to the State of Colorado • Pew Research Estimates • Colorado K-12 Schools Have 3.4 kbps/Student • National Average 6.5 kbps • Implementation of Future Federally Funded Programs May Use This Information • What is the Estimated Cost of the NG911 Network ?? • Drive Better Policymaking Around Broadband

  4. Fun Facts -- What the Data Looks Like • 3 Million Discrete Address Points • 141,040 Census Blocks in State • 128,659 Road Segments in Census Blocks >2 Sq. Mile with Reported BB • 59 Service Providers Participating • Includes 37 Wireless Providers Reporting

An Example of How to Do it • In October We Published an Article in Daryl’s Newsletter • A First Responder in Longmont Call and Asked How He Could Help • We Set Up a Specific Google Doc Survey for Longmont So He Could Track Who Participated • RESULT: In 15 Day He Collected 19 Speed Tests for 8 Facilities EXCELLENT !!
