  2. Nonpoint Source Pollution Nonpoint source pollution is generated as rain or snow melt moves over the landscape picking up pollutants from various land use practices.

  3. Watersheds A watershed is the area of land that drains into a particular body of water (ex. lake, stream, or wetland). We all live in a watershed.

  4. So what is the 6217 Program? • Addresses water quality and habitat impairments of our coastal waters. • Identifies the programs and authorities used by the state to control nonpoint source pollution. • Strengthens the links between existing state and federal programs to enhance efforts. …Besides 6217 being a good idea, it’s also a required component for state coastal programs.

  7. Management Measures • 55 management measures that must be addressed • Granted exclusion of 1 agricultural and all forestry management measures. • Full or partial exclusion of 10 management measures covered under NPDES stormwater regulations.

  8. Agriculture • Erosion and sediment control • Nutrients • Pesticides • Runoff from confined animal facilities • Grazing
