INTRODUCTION • Information and Library Network (INFLIBNET) Centre is an Autonomous Inter-University Centre (IUC) of University Grants Commission (UGC) • Strives to create infrastructure for sharing of library and information resources and services among Academic and Research Institutions. INFLIBNET works collaboratively with Indian university libraries to shape the future of the academic libraries in the evolving information environment.

  3. OBJECTIVES • Serves as a gateway of information • to promote and implement computerization of operations and services in the libraries and information centres of the country, following a uniform standard; • to evolve standards and uniform guidelines in techniques, methods, procedures, computer hardware and software, services and promote their adoption in actual practice by all libraries • to evolve a national network interconnecting various libraries and information centres in the country • to provide reliable access to document collection of libraries by creating on-line union catalogue of serials, theses/ dissertations, books, monographs and non-book materials in various libraries in India: • to create databases of projects, institutions, specialists, etc. for providing on-line information service; • to train and develop human resources in the field of computerized library operations and networking to establish, manage and sustain INFLIBNET.

GOALS • Achieve complete automation of libraries in educational institutions • Create union catalogues of documents available in libraries in online and real-time environment. • Provide seamless access to scholarly, peer-reviewed electronic resources to the universities (24 X 7) • Promote digitization of legacy documents and creation of content in e-format in universities. • Promote setting-up of open access digital repositories in universities for hosting content • Develop expertise in Digital content creation; Process of digitization

  5. Major Activities • Automation of libraries • SOUL Software • Management Systems (Databases) • Human Resource Development • Institutional repository (CALIBER Proceedings) • UGC INFONET connectivity

  6. UGC-Infonet • Ambitious programme of UGC to interlink all the Universities in the country with state-of-art technology providing Internet Connectivity to 150 plus Universities in first phase. • More than 5500 e-journals & databases are provided
