  7. Vocabulary in Context: Possible Clues • Synonym 同義字 • Antonym 反義字 • Restatement 再次陳述 (換個說法) • Definition / Description) 定義/ 描述

  8. Paragraph • 1. identifying topic; topic sentence • 2. spotting intra- and inter-paragraph transition

  9. Essay • Understanding the central line of development or overall structure • To learn the writing skill of the author

  11. Our mother likes to keep things she doesn’t use, but even she had to admit that it was time to discard all those magazines and newspapers that had been sitting in the corner collecting dust all those years.

  12. Young boys growing up often dream about playing sports for both college and professional teams. Yet the chances of actually playing for a major university are not very great, and the odds of playing professionally are even smaller.

  13. When our family first moved to California, everything seemed strange and different. Gradually, however, as I became acquainted with my surroundings and made new friends, California began to feel familiar, like home.

  14. The United States has some strange laws. For instance, the government permit cigarette companies to advertise their products in magazines and newspapers, yet it bans cigarette commercials on TV.
