History • In 1526 and in 1529, Sebastian Cabot explored Paraguay. • In 1811, Paraguay revolted against Spanish rule and became a nominal republic under two consuls. • For the first 60 years of independence, Paraguay was ruled by dictators until overthrown. • In 2008, Fernando Lugo was elected president. Paraguay is now the number two country for prosperity.

  6. Sports Paraguay is known for its great soccer team, chess players, and wonderful tennis players

Fun Facts • Guarani and Spanish are official languages of Paraguay • Currency of Paraguay is Guarani • Paraguay is the world's third largest exporter of soybeans • Paraguay's legal system is based on Roman law, Argentine codes, and French codes • Majority of the country’s population lives in the east, and only 2-3% of the population lives in the west
