Technical Session 7dQA, AUDIT & SHIELDING IN DIAGNOSTIC RADIOLOGY Poster’s review By ConstantinMilu
General assessment • CT scanners (Martin-UK, Mosquela and Delduck-Brazil, Jung-Korea, Ono and Matsunaga-Japan); • Mammographic units (Silva-Brazil, Ciraj-Bjelac-Serbia, Asada-Japan, Leyton and Viloria- Japan); • Dental radiology (Hart-UK, Ernst-Austria, SantaMaria-Brazil); • Storage and processing of data (O’Donnell-USA, Treier-Switzerland, Kramer-Brazil) .
Main categories of results • patient doses per radiological examination and comparisons with Diagnostic Reference Levels (Sung-Korea, Zweers-Netherland, Hojgaard-Denmark, Asada-Japan, Vassilieva-Bulgaria); • phantom dose measurements (Martin-UK, Cerqueira-Brazil); • shielding calculations (Martin, Sutton and Williams-UK, Chen-Taiwan); • development of databases (O’Donnell-USA, Treier-Switzerland, Kramer-Brazil) ;
THE KEY ASPECTS FOR THE FUTURE • all stakeholders must consider QA, Audit & Shieldings as being important parts of the medical practice itself, as an expression of a good practice, and not as auxiliary technical activities; standard protocols would be useful; • the present standards and tools for data storage and processing should be further developed and connected to an automated system , which may provide the “on-line” control of the physical parameters , to launch correction actions and to refine clinical protocols; the systems should be interconnected
