NCTR Activities During the reporting period the National Commission on Television and Radio of Armenia has • granted 9 licenses for broadcasting of television and radio programmes via cable network, • prolonged the duration of licenses for broadcasting of television programmes granted to two television companies,
NCTR Activities • prolonged the duration of licenses for broadcasting of radio programmes granted to four companies, • three licenses considered invalid on the basis of application for termination of the license, • convened 25 sessions, adopted 39 decrees, • received 746 letters, answered to 475, • expressed its opinion on 11 draft laws of Armenia, as well as 9 international contracts and agreements.
NCTR Activities • The National Commission on Television and Radio of Armenia received 20 letters and suggestions from the citizens and various organizations about the improvement of television and radio programmes, the broadcast of advertisements, etc. The mentioned suggestions were analyzed, discussed with concerned parties and appropriate measures were taken.
NCTR Activities • In order to implement its monitoring and controlling function the National Commission on Television and Radio of Armenia conduct monitoring of television and radio companies with countrywide and capital coverage during 2100 days and with local coverage during 1860 days.
NCTR Activities The work of National Commission on Television and Radio of Armenia is transparent, open and fair. The Commission cooperates with many Armenian and international governmental and non governmental organizations.
New Chairman of NCTR Due to the termination of the term of previous Chairman of National Commission on Television and Radio and the conducted competition run by the President of Armenia (in accordance with the Legislation of Armenia) Mr Gagik Buniatyan was appointed as a member of Commission with 6 year term. On May 7, 2013 the Commission elected Mr Gagik Buniatyan as a Chairman.
Amendments in Legislation Recently the following amendments were made to the “Law on Television and Radio” which is the main law regulating the television and radio sector • The broadcasting of television programmes with sign language or Armenian subtitles • The changes of timeline for the digitalization process
Digitalization Process Important actions took place in the digitalization process. The process of implementation of public multiplex is totally handled by the Government of Armenia. The Government took into the consideration the interests of socially vulnerable class. It has been decided toprovide the socially vulnerable class with decoders free of charge. The legislative process of digitalization for private multiplexes has started and till the end of 2015 the licensing and procedures will be regulated on legislative bases.
