MEI: A Multi-Track Diversity Certificate Program • Companion to the existing MEI: A UCR Diversity Certificate Program • Six to eighteen-month program • Multi-track diversity program • Initially offered to supervisors • Unique Certificate Program
Challenges to Overcome • Compliment the current MEI Certificate Program • Generalness of topics covered • Time commitment • Program Being too structured • Broader appeal to larger campus population
Description of the Program • Five core workshops • Eight different tracts • Each focuses on specific diversity and cultural elements • Many currently exist at UCR already
Program Implementation • Conduct Needs Assessment of supervisors • Use results to prioritize course development • Develop and implement the courses
Program Implementation • Identify supervisors to participate in a pilot Certificate Program • Evaluate effectiveness of Certificate Program • Communicate results to other supervisors and to the campus
Potential Obstacles and Their Solutions Risks • Certificate can be time consuming • 6 to 18-month timeframe may be viewed as too lenient (and not taken seriously) • Difficulties setting up internships
